An open house was held in Marysville, Washington. Michelle decorated the cake and provided flowers. We all helped with preparations in the kitchen with flowers and food. It was stressful but very exciting.
Two days after the reception on a Monday I came down with a sharp pain in my forehead. I went to the doctor who thought it sounded like Shingles, but he saw no lesions. Two days later the lesions presented themselves. The doctor started me on medication to fight the virus in the nerves in my forehead. I told the doctor that I could see the lesions were heading down the center of my forehead to my eye. I expressed my concerns. He told me that we would watch it. However, the shingles did in fact go into my left eye. The pain was incredible and I could not see out of that eye. People told me that some people with shingles of the eye had become blind in that eye. Needless to say I was very concerned. My Relief Society president was so helpful to take me to doctor’s appointments since I could not drive.
Concerned people in the ward let me borrow books on tape so I would have something to do. The top of my head itched so badly I about went crazy with scratching my head. This lasted six long weeks before it was over.
I still have a scar in the middle of my forehead where the original lesions started. Miraculously I survived the ordeal with no loss of vision! It was a miracle that the scar tissue only accumulated next to my lens. I attribute that tiny miracle to the numerous priesthood blessings I was given during the ordeal. We visited in California later and met a men who had experienced shingles in his eye and he has a section of his vision where he cannot see anything.!
